  15.      Getting Started:
  16.      
  17.      Installation of the WD1002A-WX1 requires four steps:  1) Confirming 
  18.      BIOS ROM type; 2) Checking or setting jumpers;  3) installing into 
  19.      host computer; 4) formatting the disk drives.  To complete 
  20.      installation, you will need the following:
  21.      
  22.      Two cables (3 if using two drives); MFM type drive; screwdriver; 
  23.      MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; *DEBUG utility; *FDISK utility; *FORMAT 
  24.      Utility.  (*normally included with MSDOS);

  27.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  28.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE

  32.                                  Confirming BIOS
  33.      
  34.      At location U12, please confirm that your WD1002A-WX1 BIOS ROM is 
  35.      part number 62-000094-followed by any three numbers  (this BIOS ROM 
  36.      is referred to as Western Digital's SUPERBIOS).  If your controller 
  37.      has any other BIOS, contact Technical Support at 1-800-777-4787.

  92.      Verify that the host computer contains a 135 watt power supply.  
  93.      Verify that the jumper settings on the controller board are correct.  
  94.      Modification of factory jumper settings is rarely necessary.  For 
  95.      jumper settings on W4, W6 and W8, refer to Table 1; Jumper settings 
  96.      for S1 are located on Table 2.

  134.      The following S1 jumper settings are for standard 10/20 megabyte hard 
  135.      disk drives using default settings in the SUPERBIOS.  If you are 
  136.      using a standard 10/20 megabyte drive, you may refer to the 
  137.      Simplified Formatting Instructions after completing the hardware 
  138.      installation procedures.  If your drive is a non-standard drive (i.e. 
  139.      20 megabyte drives with other than 4 heads/615 cylinders, or hard 
  140.      disk drives with a formatted capacity greater than 20 megabytes) you 
  141.      will need to refer to the Dynamic Formatting instructions after 
  142.      completing the hardware installation procedure.

  144.      If you do not know your drive parameters, return to the STORAGE 
  145.      CONTROLLERS menu to access a listing of the most common drives and 
  146.      their parameters which we have provided for your convenience.  If 
  147.      your drive is not listed, refer to your drive manual or contact the 
  148.      manufacturer.

  169.      Now that you have verified the jumper settings, you are ready to 
  170.      install the controller and drive into your host computer.

  176.                   Installation of Controller into Host Computer

  178.      Remove blank expansion slot bracket and save for future use.  The 
  179.      screw will be used to hold the controller board into place.

  181.      INSTALL CONTROLLER INTO ANY AVAILABLE SLOT EXCEPT SLOT 8

  183.      Connect the 34-pin (wide control cable) connector to J1 on the 
  184.      controller board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes 
  185.      to Pin 1 on the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is 
  186.      typically located on the color coded side of the cable.

  199.      Connect the 20-pin (data cable) to J2 (Drive 0 Data Connector) on the 
  200.      controller board.  Make sure that Pin 1 on the cable is connected to 
  201.      Pin 1 on the controller board.

  203.      If a second drive is being installed, connect the Drive 1 data cable 
  204.      to J3.
  205.      
  206.      Verify that the disk drive(s) is(are) installed properly.  This 
  207.      includes correct placement of drive select jumpers and drive 
  208.      terminator installation.  Refer to the disk drive installation manual 
  209.      for further information.  DO NOT USE THE RADIAL SELECT OPTION.

  211.      Install the drive(s) per manufacturer's instructions.

  213.                                      CAUTION
  214.                 WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  215.                 THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  216.                 COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  217.                 ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
